Kathmandu: The Department of Transport Management (DoTM) has dismissed rumors circulating on media and social platforms that vehicle owners will face fines, penalties, or even jail time if they fail to install embossed number plates starting from Asoj 1.

In a press statement, the department called the claims “baseless propaganda” and clarified that no legal action or penalties will be enforced at present.

Voluntary Installation Encouraged

The DoTM urged vehicle owners to voluntarily install embossed number plates at their nearest transport office, emphasizing cooperation in the ongoing digitization process. It also assured that adequate infrastructure and manpower have been arranged at both central and provincial offices to make the installation process easier.

English Script Use Deemed Legal

Addressing concerns over the language used on plates, the DoTM cited a ruling by the Supreme Court’s Constitutional Bench, which stated that the use of English script on embossed number plates does not violate the constitution or any law.

This clarification comes amid widespread misinformation suggesting strict enforcement measures, which the department has strongly denied.
